This soundtrack overall was very good and worth my purchase, but the reason I only gave it 4 stars was because the sound quality seems dated by today's standards. Most of the melodies were great (i.e.-"Aeris's Theme" and "One-Winged Angel" are eternal classics). I just feel most of the music could have been done on the Super Nintendo. With Playstations CD based system, they certainly could have used some live instrumentals as they did in later albums. Other than that, this is definitely a must buy for any game music collector

Opinions surrounding "Final Fantasy VII: OST" are decisively polar. For musical purist, "Final Fantasy VII: OST" may seem to fall short. For a Final Fantasy fan however, this soundtrack is a beautiful reminder of each store part and plot twist Final Fantasy VII had to offer. The tracks are non-orchestrated, and aside from "One Winged Angel", are non vocalized. This is not a criticism however, as it is the accuracy to Final Fantasy VII that allows you to replay the game in your mind. This soundtrack is nostalgic. And so it seems having played through Final Fantasy VII is undeniably the key to appreciating its soundtrack. The discs are arranged chronologically to game play, assisting to the image prompting power of "Final Fantasy VII: OST."With its wide variety of tracks and musical styles, "Final Fantasy VII : OST" is a necessity in any Final Fantasy devotee's collection.
