It is 1604, four years after the Battle of Sekigahara, Japan's greatest civil war. Yuya Shiina, a beautiful bounty hunter, mistakes a traveling medicine seller, Mibu Kyoshiro, for the legendary wanted man "Dernon Eyes Kyo." As they travel together, Yuya enlists Kyoshiro's aid in capturing a gang of wanted criminals. When Kyoshiro is cornered and beaten senseless by the criminals, his eyes turn blood red. The peaceful Kyoshiro draws his sword and transforms into Demon Eyes Kyo, the legendary killer of a thousand men. Kyoshiro and Kyo: Two vastly different spirits inhabiting one body.

A very intertaining manga!! the story is simple in the first 4 volumes but in gets comlicated after that and you will not want to stop for a rest!! Anyone who said that it copies Kenshin is an IDIOT!! It's much series and the characters and story is much mature..

I've seen the first five episodes of the anime, but I have to say that the manga is better. Character development is better and overall the story is told better (it feels a bit rushed on the anime). Of course this first volume doesn't move the story forward as much as the anime. Artwork is solid and translation good (there are a lot of japanese terms but these are explained on the book). Some of the characters are based on real people that have lived in the era. Manga is also historically quite accurate. This gives the manga a sense belonging, that it has really happened. Deeper Kyo could very well be the next "Lone Cub and Wolf". Get this!

This novel was my first exposure to the Samurai Deeper Kyo series as I haven't seen the anime yet (It wasn't even out on R1 at the time I read this). It is basically an action-comedy series with alot of fanservice. To which I am all for! :D The first volume was very interesting and I will definitely be checking out volume two.
