The Rurouni Kenshin Brilliant Collection Soundtrack is certainly a mixed bag. The first CD is completely instrumental and I found it to be one of the most breathtaking CDs I've ever listened to. The first track, "Kimi wa dare wo mamotte iru", is the gorgeous main theme of Kenshin. To hear it on CD is truly the only way to appreciate it. Wow. Most of the rest of the first CD is the music from the Kyoto cycle. If you've seen the show you'll recognize it as all of the main themes. I enjoyed them all very much. The second CD, while enjoyable, is more along the lines of a typical anime soundtrack with songs that are mostly j-pop. I really liked the first one, "Suki Toka ja Nakute..." which was sung by the seiyuu for Kamiya Kaoru. Actually, all of the songs on this CD are really good except for track four, "Ippatsu Yarou", sung by Sanosuke, and track five "2 of a Kind", a Sanosuke/Megumi duet. I found them just annoying. However, Sano redeems himself on track six with an upbeat song that *moves*! It's entitled "Kokoro no Hadaka" and I felt it personified Sanosuke perfectly. Track seven, "Shiroi Ichigo" is a very sweet duet between Ayame and Suzume and it's just SO kawaii. However, my favorite track on this CD was number nine which featured the entire cast of Kenshin singing "Kono Sekai no Katasumi de..." I could completely picture them all holding hands and swaying back and forth as they sang. It's very very very cool. <p>The third CD seems to be mainly songs that reflect the themes of the show instead of character vocal memories like on the second CD. The CD has a little bit of the feel of jazz. Overall, it's very laid back. The singers are all very talented and the songs are great. The singer on track four, "Sonomama", has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. My only complaint is against track nine, and it's a MAJOR complaint. The song, "Tsuioku - In the Past" begins with a heartbreaking instrumental that perfectly embodies the saddest moments of the show. However, at exactly 2:05, it changes into seriously annoying...techno I guess you could call it. Not even good techno. Bleh. What a waste of a song. I would highly recommend the Rurouni Kenshin Brilliant Collection. It does have its faults but the good parts so vastly outnumber the bad that it's well worth the money. I certainly consider it one of the best purchases I've made!
