album takes the themes Joe Hisaishi developed for the "Mononoke Hime" soundtrack and develops them for a symphony orchestra. This albums a good supplement to the soundtrack, because, while it contains many of the same themes, it takes the time to develop them more thoroughly (and with far less redundance --- we hear the Ashitaka theme once instead of five or more times as on the soundtrack album). The only things missing is the hauntingly beautiful voice of the counter-tenor singing the "Mononoke Hime" theme (and no Kodama rattles, sigh).
